10.00–18.00

You are invited to celebrate the fifth anniversary of MGLC Švicarija with us. The celebration in the middle of the park offers a varied programme that includes visits to art studios, participation in creative workshops and a Ljubljana culinary experience with a pleasant musical backdrop.

Programme:

10.00–18.00:
STUDIOS DOORS OPEN DAY
The artists Lea Culetto, Janja Kosi, Anja Jerčič Jakob, Damijan Kracina, Silvan Omerzu, Tanja Pak, Silvester Plotajs Sicoe, Marija Mojca Pungerčar, Ana Sluga, Zora Stančič, Martina Štirn, Miha Štrukelj and Veljko Zejak, who work at Švicarija, will open the doors of their studios. Visitors will have the opportunity to get to know the artists’ work and enjoy some temporary exhibitions and screenings:

Marija Mojca Pungerčar: The Shoe Story
Screening of the documentary film, from 10 am to 6 pm
The Alpina company from Žiri is currently in the middle of an insolvency sales process with a selected buyer whose name has not yet been made public. What is the buyer who is buying Alpina actually buying?
Marija Mojca Pungerčar's short documentary The Shoe Story was made in 2001 in collaboration with Veronika Klančnik. In the film, workers at the Alpina company in Žiri talk about their lives, their wishes and plans, which two decades ago were closely linked to the factory and the possibility of earning money in their hometown. Will this stay the same after the company is sold?

Silvester Plotajs Sicoe: A Day for Punk Cubism
Exhibition, from 10 am to 6 pm
Silvester Plotajs Sicoe presents a new series of paintings (continuation of last year's exhibition Punk Cubism), which represent the next stage in the exploration of a new pictorial space and a reflection on the absence of Cubism in the development of Slovenian art. The artist has substantiated the Cubist style with an open, garish colour scale and a sandy texture that creates a direct and "raw" image. A Day for Punk Cubism is an insight into painterly thinking.

Martina Štirn: ObJem (installation) and Birth (puppet show)
Installation, from 10 am to 6 pm
Puppet show, at 10 am and 4 pm
Pilot set-up of the urban milk bubble ObJem, which draws attention to the current unsuitable conditions in urban areas and offers the possibility for set-ups in the wider Slovenian area.

Anja Jerčič Jakob: Vranja potovanja [Crow's Travels]
Exhibition of illustrations, from 10 am to 6 pm
Anja Jerčič Jakob, painter and pedagogue, presents another important aspect of her work – illustration. On display will be black-and-white illustrations in the technique of wasp for the fourth collection of poems for children by Jure Jakob Vranja potovanja [Crow's Travels] (Založba Miš, 2021).

Tanja Pak: Spatial installation and glass design, presentation of the project Mid-Breath
Exhibition of selected works with presentation, from 10 am to 6 pm
Presentation of the Mid-Breath project, at 3 pm
Accompanying the exhibited selection of sculptures, Tanja Pak will prepare a projection of her spatial installations, sculptures and design works. At 3 pm, she will also present a projection of the Mid-Breath project from conception to realisation. The exhibition Mid-Breath was set up in 2021 at Velenje Gallery and was largely created precisely in MGLC Švicarija. With the exhibition, the artist addressed in-between time, which is sometimes immobility, the waiting for the next moment, a mid-breath from here to there, and from there to beyond. In her own way, she expressed her feelings about the journey through these and other isolations and the search for closeness." The book (designed by Tomato Košir) that accompanies the exhibition will also be presented.

11.00, 1st floor:
OPENING OF THE EXHIBITION The Shadow Is Seen by My Eyes, the Light Is Seen Only by My Heart
On the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the renovation of Švicarija, we invite you to view the permanent exhibition on its history. Švicarija has always known how to surprise, connect and boldly reshape its purpose. Many individuals have taken diligent care that the light in it has never been completely extinguished. The unique past of Švicarija, which was granted the status of a cultural monument of local importance in 2013, is summed up by the guiding principle of community, art and nature, which will continue to illuminate its work in the future.

Curators: Yasmín Martín Vodopivec and Dušan Dovč

12.00–14.00 and 15.00–17.00, Courtyard:
WORKSHOPS for children, families, art lovers

Švicarija on the Body – a workshop with stamps, tattoos and mirror photographs.
We will make stamps out of lino – tattoos with different motifs from Švicarija and print them on the body or paper. There is also a scribbled mirror at the workshop premises, which we can use to capture our reflection through the camera lens.
The workshop will be led by Špela Kobal, art pedagogue.

Mobile Printmaking Studio
We will learn about screen printing, one of the most popular printmaking techniques, and try our hand at printing on paper and textiles in a DIY workshop. We will print the little mice from Švicarija and other motifs.
The workshop will be led by Jakob Puh, printmaking master at MGLC.

17.00–18.00, Courtyard
CONCERT BY tAman
The day will end with a concert by tAman. The band plays jazzy ethnic music and performs traditional love songs from the former Yugoslavia, especially from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia, but also from Serbia and Montenegro.

All day in the Švicarija Courtyard
BISTRO ŠVICARIJA, PICNIC
In the spirit of picnics organised in the courtyard by the former residents of Švicarija, we will also socialise with the delicacies of Bistro Švicarija.
