»April is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.«
(T. S. Eliot: The Waste Land, I. The Burial of the Dead)

Mina Fina is particularly concerned with drawing, which takes the form of momentary notes and notations, as she outlines the human figure, elements from nature or incidental objects taken from the environment, using just a few brief strokes. She often concludes her highly intimate visual narratives in the form of artist's books, zines, graphic prints, video animations or spatial installations.

The project Za vse je pravi čas / If only for the joy of my sadness is based on the visual density of the space formed by the artist with the silhouettes of plants and human bodies. The plants, with their pristine appearance, simplicity of form, intertwining and complexity build up impassable, overgrown and lush landscapes in a contrasting environment of light and shadow. They include the flat and empty silhouettes of human figures, stripped of detail, but with an emphasised body language, in unnatural and played-out poses.

The feeling of the archaic and idyllic image of the Garden of Eden dissipates in the contrast between the essence of nature within which the language of the human body expresses a false sense of satisfaction, desire and passion.

Mina Fina (1978) graduated in 2002 from the Department of Visual Communications at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana. In her art work she explores drawing, illustration, animation and video, as well as the cross-over between these mediums, often in the final form of spatial installations. She has published several original artist's publications, zines and artist's books. She is a freelance graphic designer, illustrator and VJ, a member of the Ee group of designers, the audio-visual collective Your Gay Thoughts and the Riso Paradiso informal art group. She is currently showing her work in the Zines!, Contemporary Zine Production exhibition at the International Centre of Graphic Arts.
